Sun, Spiral and Stone

One of Ireland’s oldest megaliths, Newgrange, is made of stone, quartz and earth. On the darkest day of the year, the winter solstice, the suns rays shine through a corridor into an inner chamber. Four rooms meet in the middle of the structure to form a center. There you can see spirals carved into the walls and highly decorative design work. Tomb? Ceremonial Space? Bomb shelter? Not much is known about the original purpose of the space.
