June 17-24, 2007 — Build Here Now

Natural Building, Permaculture and Sustainable Lifestyles Convergence
Taos County, New Mexico.

Build Here Now is the 9th Natural Building, Permaculture and Sustainable Lifestyles convergence. Join us for a dynamic week of hands-on workshops, classroom theory, discussion, slide presentations, and networking with dedicated practitioners of natural building, permaculture and sustainable lifestyles - set amongst the stunning beauty of Lama Foundation. Cost: $525. Tuition includes everything; you will have no extra costs during the program. We accommodate people in prepared tenting sites, with limited dorm-space (small extra fee) and car camping sites (no fee) by reservation. Hotel-type lodging is available in Taos or Questa at additional cost. All meals are vegetarian. Families are welcome - please inquire for details.

A Regional Natural Building Gathering
Thunder Mountain Retreat Center, Bath, New York

The Peaceweavers will host their 4th Eastern Bioregional Colloquium in 2007. At the 2006 event participants had the opportunity to get their hands into strawbale construction, timber framing, cob, cordwood, plaster and natural finishes, log cabin construction, and megalithic stone raising. Workshops, demos and presentations were offered in earth sheltered buildings, international building projects, renewable energy, alternative fuels, building codes, straw-clay infill, building with hemp, passive solar design, thatching, solar energy & more.

The registration fee for this unique learning experience includes professional “classroom” and hands-on instruction, vegetarian meals, a camping spot (please bring your own gear) and community activities for the whole family. Limited work-study opportunities are available by qualification.

October 19-28, 2007— Texas Bioregional Natural Building Gathering

Kerrville, Texas (Near Austin)

The 1st Texas Natural Building Colloquium is slated to be hosted at Quiet Valley Ranch, central Texas, home of the long-running, world famous Kerrville Folk Festival. Austin’s Sustainable Building Coalition and other Texas natural building leaders will work with colloquium participants to improve facilities used by Kerrville Folk Festival artists, staff and visitors. Details on registration, costs, speakers, schedules, and other colloquium details are yet to be determined, but will be posted here and on the 2007 colloquium’s web site (http://www.naturalbuildingtexas.org) as soon as is feasible. Possible topics or projects for this colloquium currently under consideration include straw bale construction, cob construction, earthen and lime plasters, earthen floors, natural building theory and practice, owner-builder project presentations and more. June 20-29, 2008 — Asheville Building Convergence (ABC)

Asheville, North Carolina

Inspired by City Repair’s ‘Village Building Convergence’ in Portland, OR, planning is underway for the Asheville Building Convergence ‘08 - a 10-day hands-on citywide event in Asheville, NC. Through a participatory process, the simultaneous installation of beautiful on-the-ground community projects will be created. The projects will model whole-systems sustainability, and will incorporate natural (earth and straw), as well as recycled and salvaged materials.
